“When we contemplate the miracle of embodied life, we begin to partner with our bodies in a kinder way.” ― Sharon Salzberg, Real Love: The Art of Mindful Connection
In this 4.5 hour introductory workshop Jo Miller, Sound and Somatic Therapist will take you through what embodiment means, the different forms and paths we can take to live a more embodied and fuller life. You will then be taken through a somatic meditation before heading into a fun and revealing set of ‘poses’ from her work as an Associate Embodied Yoga Principles Teacher to help you bring awareness to the patterns held in our bodies. Once illuminated these patterns then bring choice and choice brings a life with greater freedom.
Somatic comes from the greek word ‘of the body’. The field of somatics or soma is ‘the experience of the body’ as subjectively experienced by the consciousness who inhabits it. In other words, the individual who perceives / senses and experiences ‘the living body in it’s wholeness’. Somatics and embodiment are broadly speaking interchangeable words in this field.
About Embodied Yoga Principles: Embodied Yoga Principles emphasises psychological self-awareness and transfer of skills to daily-life. EYP is mindfulness-based and incorporates elements of life coaching, body therapy, dance, bodywork, improv. and martial arts. Postures and group exercises are used to explore and develop the body as a way of being, integral to how we live. EYP is about improving personal freedom, the relationships that matter most in our lives, and effectiveness in making the world a better place.
Embodied yoga is socially aware, and avoids both new-age superstition and Western body materialism. Embodied yoga can be emotionally intense as it’s a powerful tool for looking at your personal patterns and changing your life for the better. EYP is also more social and playful than much yoga, so is also very connecting and lots of fun.
The session will explore how we live through our wholeness, including the ‘felt sense’ where are body is more than a brain taxi and will include:
Opening discussion
Guided Meditation
EYP Postures and some partner work
Next steps to Embodied Living
All postures can be adjusted and are based on choice i.e. you can choose to participate or not at any time. Open to all levels and you don’t have to be a yogi to join in.
